How To Save A Boatload Of Money This Year

Are you ready to save a ton of money this year? I know I am! Here are some things that I’ve done to save lots of money!

Get a Job – Okay, this one may seem silly, but you have no idea how many people want to save a ton of money without a job! It doesn’t necessarily have to be a 9-5 office job, or a heavy manual labor job. Anything will work, however if you have a job where you fill out a W-2 form, it will be easier. An example of this makes my next point:

Passive Saving From Your Salary – If you get a paycheck from a job, you can have money automatically saved without you even noticing! All you have to do is redirect a certain amount of money into a separate bank account, AKA your savings account. It can be as little as $10, or as much as, well, your entire paycheck. Whatever your budget allows, make it happen! For more information on how to do this, contact your employer.

Join the Armed Forces – Okay, this step may not be for everyone. However, members of the Armed Forces get FREE healthcare for themselves and their family! How cool is that?! Not to mention free college, housing, career training, and loads of other useful resources. Even if you just join the National Guard or Navy Reserves, you are entitled to those benefits. Hey, it’s worth a shot! And as someone once said to me, “almost any job you could ever want to do in the civilian life, you can do for the military”.

Start A Side Hustle – If you already have a job, that’s great! Now, get another one! Whether you walk dogs, resell clothing, or prune fruit trees, a side hustle is the perfect way to fatten your savings! Currently, my side hustles are delivering food for Doordash, walking dogs for Wag!, and selling clothing on Poshmark. I do these side hustles whenever I feel like it, so if I want to make a crap ton of money on a weekend, I have those options to choose from. My husband also has a few side hustles on top of his career, which include driving for Lyft, and refereeing hockey games at our local ice rinks.

Get A Piggy Bank – Well, it doesn’t exactly have to be a piggy bank. In fact, mine looks like an old whisky jug with a pirate on it. It could be a glass jar, a box, or even a treasure chest. Just make sure whatever it is that you choose has a lid, or can close. This is important, because if you have to open it, you have a little extra time to rethink your actions. Do you really need to steal from yourself to buy that pizza? Nah, dude. Put it back. Savings jars are great because you can throw your spare change in it, and before you know it you have $60 to add to your savings. It works, I promise.

Cut Your Spending – Switch from a large coffee to a medium, and put that extra change in your coin jar. You can use this technique for just about anything you may cut from your spending.

Sell Clothes on Poshmark – You can make an unlimited amount of money by selling on Poshmark. Start by selling unwanted items from your closet, then use half of that money to buy clothes from a thrift store to flip. You won’t spend a penny of your own money to start, and before you know it you’ll be making $500 a month! Save money on something you want by using code SALTYSHREDS for $5.00 off your first purchase on Poshmark.

Deliver Food With DoorDash – This one has really surprised me! I started using DoorDash a few months ago, and was blown away by how easy it is to make quick money! You have the potential to earn well over $20 an hour (more if you live in a more condensed area), and you get paid every Monday! (Not to mention it’s FREE to get started. You don’t pay a single penny to start delivering food!) If you would like a personal invite to begin delivering food, send me a message or leave a comment below!

Sell Something You Make – I like to crochet. I actually have a completely separate blog dedicated to it. (You can check it out here) I sell my finished items in my Etsy shop, at craft shows, and on Facebook to my family and friends. Currently, I’m giving all of my profit to help my mom with her medical bills, but you can certainly keep your profits and save it for whatever!

Trade In Your Car – This might not apply to you, but if you are currently rocking a $900 car payment, consider downgrading. You can save the difference in payments every month, and watch your money grow extremely quickly.

Have a Yard Sale – Declutter your home and make some cash.

Trade Services – Are you good at something handy, like small car repairs, gardening, or plumbing? Consider offering your services to a neighbor in exchange for something else, like babysitting, dog-sitting, or even a good meal. You really can trade any kind of service, and you both get to save a little money in the process.

Grow and Sell Flowers or Produce – Seeds are inexpensive, so with a little work and attention, you have the potential to grow all sorts of things, regardless of the outdoor space you have. A quick Google search will show you many ways to create a garden in a tiny space.

Write an e-Book – We all have something that means a lot to us, or an experience we would like to share. Creating an e-book is a great way to make some passive income in exchange for a few hours of work.

Those were just a few suggestions as to how you can save a boatload of money this year! There are so many opportunities out there for you to save money, you just need to go out and find them!

How do you save money? I’d love to hear about it! Leave a comment below and share the money love!
