Friendly Hustle Competition
I’m a firm believer in having goals at all times. I also believe that if you are comfortable in your life at the present moment, you should try to learn something new or find something in your life that could be improved. If we have the time, why not do something productive with it?
Being a finance major and overall lover of all things money, my goals are usually financially motivated. It brings me great joy to earn a little bit extra to put toward a bill, or to buy something nice for my kids.
While our friend came to visit a few weeks ago, he brought up an idea. He suggested we have a competition to see who could make more money in any given amount of time. My response? “Um, YES”. I got him started with DoorDash (send me a message if you would like to learn more!), and he pretty much has the same kind of financial motivation that I do. While my husband isn’t motivated in the same ways as us, he does have a couple side hustles of his own. He rides with Lyft and referees hockey games on weekends (I’m so proud of you, babe!). We decided that we would go week by week and see who could make the most money with their side hustles. I would be doing DoorDash and selling things in my Poshmark closet, and being the competitive nature that I am, I got right to work.
It’s pretty neat to have this little competition, especially between my husband and I. It makes things a little more fun, and provides us with more money to put toward our debt and (gasp!) the down payment for the house we are buying.
There is nothing wrong with a little friendly competition. Just make sure you keep it fun, and if you are doing a money-making competition, try to make sure the prizes are free.
