Restarting My Reselling Side Hustle

Wow, it’s been quite the weekend!

After spending my Saturday at a car show (which my car won first place by the way *takes a bow*) and taking pictures of a bunch of the cars there, I’ve been itching to do something that makes me money!  Okay, I guess I could start selling my pictures, but I’m still not that confident in my photography skills.

About a week ago I decided to get back into reselling clothing that I buy from thrift stores.  I’ve done this in the past, and made a decent amount of side change!  Between all of the moving and military stuff, I had to stop for a bit.  Now that I have a more regular schedule (and my language training is done, yay!) I’m able to finally pick back up again, but this time, I’m being more serious about it.

One of the hardest parts for me last time I was reselling was keeping track of my expenses and income.  I got overwhelmed with the Ebay fees and PayPal fees, on top of the shipping fees, so I didn’t really know exactly how much profit I was making.  Now that I’ve had lots of time to think about it, I decided to ask my husband to make an Excel spreadsheet for me to track it all. I must say, he did a FANTASTIC job!  I’m able to enter all of my expenses, from inventory to bubble wrap, and put my income, fees, and any other little charges I may have, and see what my final profits are at the end of the month.  The best part is, is that I can roll that over to the following month to see overall how much profit is made (or lost!). I’m really grateful for my husband right now.

Anyway, I started out by hitting up my local Goodwill, just to see what I could find.  It turns out it was half price day when I went, so I managed to get a couple items for dirt cheap! I went the following day, and had the same luck.

I went home and listed the items that I had purchased, after double checking for any flaws in the item.  The pictures weren’t the best, because I don’t have access to my mannequin right now due to moving yet again here in a couple months. (Waaahhh!) So, my pictures are literally just the item on a hanger up against my dresser.  But that didn’t stop my first sale from coming in!  I managed to sell a Hollister sweater for $15.00, and that alone paid for the 8 items I had purchased initially! Score!

After that sale, I took the week off due to work, but today I managed to head back to the Goodwill and take advantage of yet another half price day! Boy, did I make out!

I scored two dresses, one Bebe and one Calvin Klein, a pair of Lucky Brand jeans, two Calvin Klein jeans, a pair of Michael Kors jeans, a Banana Republic shirt, and two vintage tops for $38. I plan to flip those items for more than $135, so I’d say that’s a decent profit!

I did something different today, however, and that is open a Poshmark shop.  I usually sell on Ebay, and it’s served me well, but I’ve noticed a trend in Poshmark that I can’t not be a part of. I follow a lot of lovely ladies on Instagram who sell on Poshmark, and they are truly inspiring!

I don’t have many items right now, so I don’t expect to make tons of money just yet, but I hope that by slowly increasing my inventory the I’ll be able to have steady sales coming in.

By the way, if you haven’t tried Poshmark yet and want $5 for free off of your first purchase, use my closet code “RINSTYLE” when you join! It helps both of us!

Do you sell on Poshmark? I’d love to hear about it! Leave a comment below!
