My First Month of Blogging and Goals for September

This past month has been filled with ups and downs. I’ve learned a lot, worked hard, and kept chugging through. If you’ve been following along, you’ll remember that when I first started my blog a month ago, I had some pretty big goals! In this post, I’ll be going over those goals, updating on whether or not I’ve met them, and provide my goals for the next month. So let’s jump right in!

As a refresher, here were my goals for this past month:

Blogging

15 published posts

200 Instagram followers

100 Facebook page “likes”

Make just .01 in affiliate marketing

Hustle

Make $100 from my eBay store

Research how to track expenses

$5,000 in savings

Long Term

Quit my job!

Wow, those are some pretty big goals! Did I meet them all? No, of course not. I didn’t know what to expect for my first month, so I aimed a little high on all of them. I also changed tactics a bit, focusing on certain areas rather than others. Let me explain:

15 published posts. Did I meet my goal? No. This post makes post number 13. I need to give myself some credit though. I have a full time job that is both physically demanding as well as time consuming. My family just moved half way across the country, so I chose spending time with them some nights over working on the blog. All of this is okay! I did my best to meet that goal, so I’m not at all upset that I fell short.

200 Instagram followers. Did I meet my goal? YES! At the time of this post, I actually have 465 followers! I had to change my Instagram name, though. It’s no longer HustleForThePaper, but rather Rinstyle_Reseller. It is more focused on my reselling, so lots of similar people are following me. I’m really happy with my decision to change things up, and it’s paying off.

100 facebook “likes”. Did I meet my goal? No. At the time of this post I have 43. I kind of gave up on the Facebook page. I’ve been focusing on my reselling, and the facebook page wasn’t really giving me the kind of results I had wanted. For now, I’ll keep it up and running, but I won’t be posting much.

Make just .01 in affiliate marketing. Did I do it? No. Not even a penny. In fact, I think I’ve only had 2 clicks this entire month. I’m okay with it though. I’m still new to affiliate marketing, and I know once I get a bigger following, the payments will come.

Make 100 in eBay sales. Did I do it? Kind of. Ebay has been slow for me, but I managed to make $75 in sales this past month. That isn’t including Ebay and Paypal fees though. I did however, start selling on Poshmark, and let me tell you, I’ve made more this past month in Poshmark than I had expected. I made $179.80 in sales on Poshmark. Combining the two, I’ve made a total of 254.80 this month. Not too shabby!

Research how to track expenses. Did I do it? Yep. And I’ve found that it’s simpler to just have a separate bank account for my business, and keep track of it that way. I tried keeping track of each item individually, but ain’t nobody got time for that! If I spend $25 on inventory, and sell one of those items for $30, I’ve made my money back, and earned a profit. The only problem I have with my system right now, is that one of my husband’s checks was deposited into it, so we are doing math to make sure that only work money is remaining in there once we get it all out. We’ve since fixed the issue, so hopefully now it is strictly a business account.

$5000 in savings. Did I do it? Haha, no way. I think at this time I have about $800 in savings. I didn’t expect to reach $5000 in one month, but I like to aim high sometimes.

Long term goal, quit my job. Did it happen. Nope, of course not. I ain’t even mad.

So what are my goals for the month of September? Let’s break it down:

Blogging Goals

25 posts

Make any money with affiliate marketing

Get 8 subscribers

1,000 IG followers

Money Goals

Make $500 in sales on Poshmark and/or Ebay

Become a Posh Ambassador

Have $1,000 in savings

Long term

Quit my job!

I’m ready to put in the work to achieve these goals for the month of September! It isn’t going to be easy, especially since this is my last month (hopefully) of military training. I’m going to be spread thin, but with my family all settled in our new home, I’m hopeful that I can achieve all of my goals.

What are your goals for this month? I’d love to hear about them! Leave a comment and let me know!
